Skittles in vending machines

It is my personal opinion that Skittles is the best option students and staff have in the Casper College vending machines. However, only a handful of vending machines on the CC campus offer Skittles.

This is rather disappointing for me. Some people may argue that there is no need for this change because there is already the option to buy Skittles in a few of the vending machines located around the campus, but I disagree. I can’t always afford to traverse the campus to find a vending machine stocked with Skittles. I feel like others may find themselves in the same boat. Not every student or faculty member will be able to search them out either, so I think it is essential for every vending machine that doesn’t have beverages to have Skittles as an option.   Most if not all vending machines on campus have M&Ms and chocolate bars, but there is a distinctive difference between chocolate and a fruity, chewy candy. Skittles do not melt, but chocolate will if you keep it in your pocket for too long. Additionally, there are simply times when I only want to purchase Skittles and not anything else the vending machines offer. I don’t typically purchase food from a vending machine in the first place unless it is selling something as versatile and timeless as Skittles.

According to ABC 7 News and its 2018 article “What’s the Most Popular Halloween Candy? Skittles Tops the List in the U.S.,” Skittles was the most popular candy of the year. Skittles may not be as popular now as it was then; however, the candy is still cemented itself as a popular option. One poll by YouGov titled “Skittles Popularity & Fame” shows that Skittles maintains a positive image amongst the majority of people. Skittles may not be as popular as many other chocolate candies, but it is still a popular non-chocolate candy that is widely recognized by almost everyone.

Furthermore, Skittles has sold over 10,000 units on Amazon in 2026 alone. This makes Skittles the fifth most profitable non-chocolate candy on Amazon, according to an article by Asinsight in 2026. It is also important to note that the four candies with higher sales than Skittles are not commonly found in vending machines.

I do not think this request would demand too much of the college. There are already Skittles in several of the vending machines across the campus, and all the vending machines currently have several products that are manufactured by the Mars company who also creates Skittles. Furthermore, in most if not all vending machines there is more than enough room for Skittles.

In conclusion, I think it is necessary that Casper College make Skittles available in every vending machine selling food. This is once again because of how easy it would be to put Skittles in every vending machine, the ease of access to all students and staff to Skittles, and the uniqueness of Skittles that would encourage people like me to spend more money at the CC vending machines.
